The Role

Telecom Systems Architect (OSS/BSS)

Role Description

Interact with the customer to define and provide systems that enhance the customer's competitive position. The solution architect plans, designs and supports the delivery of OSS/BSS based solutions providing capacity, functionality, end-user services and the ability to improve and grow a customers business.

Provide governance, technical architecture and design skills on IT projects, throughout the project life cycle. Architect and Design IT solutions to meet client requirements and ensure these are successfully implemented.

Ensure that the integrity of the overall architecture is maintained through the use of appropriate controls and recommend architecture and design strategies in order to maximize revenue and minimize cost for a client.

Main Responsibilities

Work collaboratively with Customers, Project Managers, Solution Designers, and Business Analysts, Development teams, testing and operational functions to ensure that solutions are technically viable and appropriately budgeted.

Review the Business Requirements Specifications and use cases.

Design end to end IT solutions for projects, potentially integrating multiple systems ensuring that designs adhere to agreed design standards and methods.

Strong technical-scoping skills (including identifying all options for client).

Provide thought leadership on projects, coordinating subject matter experts and solution designers to ensure coherency of the end to end design whilst ensuring that technical dependencies are identified and managed throughout the project life cycle.

Ensure that requirement compliancy to design is tracked through the project life cycle through to deployment.

Manage the solution design(s) throughout the project life cycle through to deployment, ensuring that any defects are identified and resolved throughout the process.

Should technical changes be required ensure that proposed technical changes are assessed appropriately to ensure the impact and cost is fully understood.

Technical Skills (Essential)

7 to 10 + years' experience of performing an architecture and/or solution design role in a Telco, ISP, utility or transport organization.

7 to 10 + years' experience working on OSS/BSS Implementations

7 + years' experience providing end to end technical leadership for OSS/BSS projects.

Demonstrable experience of working within a large-scale Telecom/IT environment, ideally an operator/supplier of fixed and/or mobile equipment, systems integrator or service provider.

Technical skills (Desirable)

7 + years experience of working within a large-scale Telecom/IT environment, ideally an operator/supplier of fixed and/or mobile equipment.

Awareness/Appreciation of Telecom fixed/mobile Operator Systems specifically Service Assurance, Billing, Trouble ticketing, Work Force Management, Network Planning and Design Systems, Service and Network Inventory, and network Fault and performance management solutions.

Awareness/Appreciation of Telecom fixed/Mobile Operator networks including Optical, Radio and wireless.

Experience of working on distributed IT solutions.

Experience of business Transformation projects

Good knowledge of ITIL v3, eTOM, TAM v4.3, TOGAF v9 and UML2, DPA, GDPR ideally certified in at least one.

Ability to actively participate in process definitions, analysis of deliverables, interviews and workshops with process participants (eg Product Owner, Developers), Business Solution Architects and review of the various design deliverables, in order to understand potential gaps, risks and issues with the various design elements.

Able to estimate the level of effort required to develop potential solutions

Self managing, with a flexible and positive attitude to challenging requirements

Able to integrate with and build excellent customer relationships

Able to work to tight deadlines and manage critical project scope


Experience is most important in addition ideally the candidate should be educated to degree level in Telecoms, IT, Computer Science or other similar subject.
